Not really sure where March went, but I’m REALLY ready for some warm, spring weather. The past week has been cloudy and rainy and just plain gloomy and I was not having it. I want flowers and sunshine and little, baby animals!
Anyway…new month means it’s time for some monthly favorites!
First up…a new website that I recently discovered: HelloGiggles. According to their “About Us” section, it’s a “positive online community for women…covering the latest in beauty, fashion, lifestyle, female empowerment, culture, relationships, friendship, careers, and issues that matter most to young women’s lives.” It was founded in 2011 by Zooey Deschanel and two other women I’ve never heard of (Molly McAleer and Sophia Rossi), and to be honest, I have no idea how I’m just now finding out about this website, but I’m absolutely loving it. It’s kind of a mix between Buzzfeed, YouTube, Yahoo! News, Cosmopolitan, and pretty much any lifestyle blog ever. I find myself spending a significant amount of my mornings reading their stuff. Like yesterday, I read about a new thing that’s apparently all the rage in New York…the spaghetti donut. I am REALLY hoping this was not an April Fool’s joke because I am kind of all about this “spaghetti to go” idea. (PLEASE be real, spaghetti donut!!!) Anyway, while most people spend their time reading actual news stories (maybe) while they drink their morning coffee, I will continue to read about ridiculous things like pastas in donut form. And I will enjoy it.
My next favorite thing for March is the new Beauty and the Beast live-action movie that came out a few weeks ago. Okay…who did not see this coming? Because if you are surprised by this then, I’m sorry, but we are probably not very good friends. Beauty and the Beast is one of my all-time favorite movies. Not just one of my all-time favorite Disney movies…one of my favorite movies EVER. And Belle is, of course, my favorite Disney princess because she is the most beautiful girl in town and that makes her the best. Ha! See what I did there?? If you didn’t get that reference please watch the original animated version then get back to me. No, seriously, Belle is the best because she is smart and fearless and doesn’t take crap from the creepy dude in town who stalks her on a seriously unhealthy level. Plus, she doesn’t fall in love after…like…one day. Not to mention the girl is in no way shallow because she kind of fell in love with a half animal/half human creature which is pretty hard to do I would imagine. As if that wasn’t enough, I love Belle even more now because she is played by Emma freaking Watson who is one of the most amazing people ever to walk the planet. (I MAY have a slight girl-crush on this chick.) But come on…she is a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, Brown University graduate, AND she started her own book club (which is something Belle would TOTALLY do). I just want her to be my best friend, that’s all. Anyway…this new live-action Beauty and the Beast did not disappoint. Sure, there were a few things that I didn’t love and thought they could have done without, but overall I really, really loved it and I probably will be seeing it a third time sometime this week. Because the theater near me has $5 movie nights and those are the best. Plus they serve wine.
My next favorite item for this past month is what I call a “nerd product.” Sure, it may be a bit lame that I’m talking about this on my monthly favorites, but it sure has made my life easier and just a little bit more organized. (But just a little bit because honestly I’m one of the most organized people I know. Not to brag or anything.) I’m talking about Sistema food containers.
One of my resolutions for this year was to be more conscious of waste. So I’m ditching disposables and going for reusable everything. In my quest, I have discovered the reusable and ever so handy Sistema containers, which also happen to be BPA free. Yay!!! Plus, they make packing my lunch much easier and help me with divvying out portions. (Because eating almost a whole can of Pringles in one sitting is a real problem for me apparently.) Best of all, they are dishwasher safe and super travel-friendly. And obviously more environmentally friendly than Ziploc bags and disposable tupperware. Yay for going green!
(Get them at the Container Store, Amazon, and HomeGoods.)
And finally, my last favorite thing for March is an app I’ve been using for a little while now. It’s called Poshmark and it’s a resale app that lets you sell your gently used clothes, shoes, and accessories.
Ever seen those commercials for the ‘letgo’ app? It’s pretty much exactly the same thing, but for clothing and accessories. You offer a price for an item that is listed for sale, and then the seller can either accept, counter-offer, or decline. If you end up on the selling side, it’s really easy to ship your items once they do sell. Poshmark e-mails you a prepaid shipping label to print out, then you just attach that to one of the free Priority Mail boxes the post office offers, then just drop it off in the mailbox! Super easy! You set your own prices on the items you sell and then Poshmark takes a small commission from your sale. I’ve already made several hundred dollars just by cleaning out my closet and selling things that I never wear. And they have men’s and children’s categories also, so start cleaning out all your closets today and make some money!
Well, that about wraps up this month’s edition of monthly favorites! Lots going on in April for me so check back soon!
Have a great week!
